Ruth: A Patient Story
On New Year’s Eve in 2022, Ruth and her friend were wrestling at home in Monrovia, Liberia, when Ruth fell and suffered a complex cervical fracture. The family rushed her to the hospital where Gwendolyn, a trauma nurse at the John F. Kennedy Medical Centre (JFK) received her in the emergency department. Ruth’s right arm was incapacitated while she was also in intense and piercing pain. There were very few options for Ruth. The family could not afford the US$10,000 price tag to have surgery done in Ghana, as well as travel and accommodation expenses. Any unexpected movement could have meant Ruth would be permanently paralyzed. But then the family learned that a KBNF mission would arrive in mid-January. It seemed like an answer to prayer. This is Ruth's story and the power and importance of a KBNF Neurosurgical Mission.
