We Walked for the Bu!

Sometimes we think we walk for a cause, but what is even more beautiful is how the cause brings us together as a family. On Saturday, Sept. 26, 2026 we gathered at Campbell Valley Park in Langley, BC, for the Walk for the Bu.

This annual fundraiser is an important event to raise awareness and support for the work of the Korle-Bu Neuroscience Foundation (KBNF).

More than 60 supporters showed up on a glorious Fall day. We stretched, we connected with old and new friends, and then we walked.

We also remembered why we walk. We were reminded of the need for more equal access to neurosurgical care in Liberia, Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and The Gambia.

We’d just completed two neurosurgical missions in Liberia—one in August and one in September—and each patient who received surgery received hope.

These surgeries were free to the patients. But, as you know, these surgeries are not free. Thanks to partnerships with JFK Memorial Hospital in Monrovia, as well as neurosurgeons, nurses and medical professionals who donate their time, we can perform these surgeries at a reduced cost of about $4,000 per patient.

We remembered these patients as we walked.

We remembered our partners as we walked.

We imagined a different world together.

We ended the walk with a celebratory BBQ, some inspiring words from Marj and a Heart Power inspirational talk from Danny Moe.

Thank you to Brenda MacLeod and her family, who helped put on this event, and thank you to every sponsor, donor, and volunteer who make this day such a meaningful one.

Also, a special thank you to these sponsors:
